Free Printable Yarn Weight Chart
Lace, fingering, DK, worsted, aran, chunky: yarn weights go by different names in different countries. This chart lines up the standard weights from 0 to 7 with their US, UK and Australian names, plus the gauge and tool sizes that usually suit them.
One page. Prints well in black and white.

On the sheet
- All 8 standard weights, from 0 to 7
- US, UK and Australian names side by side
- Typical knit and crochet gauge, with needle and hook sizes
Swapping a yarn
Start with the weight number, then compare gauge. The ranges on the chart are typical, and the gauge in your pattern always comes first, so make a swatch before you buy enough for the whole project.
Names around the world
A US worsted or aran is a UK aran and an Australian 10 ply. A US DK is a UK DK and an Australian 8 ply.
Counting rows? Stitch Scroll keeps your place.
Stitch Scroll reads the knitting or crochet pattern you own and turns it into rows you count with a tap. It checks the stitch counts row by row before you start, so a slip in the pattern shows up early. Every row shows how many stitches you should end with.
