Free Crochet Hook and Knitting Needle Size Chart
Hooks and needles are sized three ways: metric millimeters, US letters and numbers, and the old UK and Canadian numbers on vintage tools and patterns. This chart lines them all up on one page.
One page. Prints well in black and white.

On the sheet
- Crochet hooks from 2.25 mm to 25 mm
- Knitting needles from 2 mm to 25 mm
- Notes where charts disagree, so nothing catches you out
Always check the mm size
Letters and numbers can differ between brands. Some brands make a 4.25 mm G hook, for example, so the millimeter size is the one to trust.
Vintage needles and patterns
Old UK and Canadian needle sizes run backwards: the bigger the number, the thinner the needle. An old UK 8 is a 4 mm needle, which is a US 6.
Counting rows? Stitch Scroll keeps your place.
Stitch Scroll reads the knitting or crochet pattern you own and turns it into rows you count with a tap. It checks the stitch counts row by row before you start, so a slip in the pattern shows up early. Pick your size once, and every count and measurement shows for your size only.
